Man charged with cheating at KK magistrate's court

KOTA KINABALU: A storekeeper was charged with cheating and inducing a woman to pay him RM500 at the magistrate’s court here, today.

Razali A.D. Samat, 30, pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.

The offence carries a sentence of imprisonment of between one to ten years, with whipping; and a liable fine, if convicted.

Magistrate Cindy McJuce Balitus fixed Aug 20 for case management and allowed the accused RM3,000 bail with two local sureties.

According to the charge sheet, Razali from Kampung Bakalau, Beaufort, is accused of deceiving Zulkiah Nawali, 27, into making her believe that he could secure her appointment as police Constable.

He is accused of having persuaded Zulkiah to pay him RM500, which she would not have handed over if not deceived.

Razali allegedly committed the offence in March this year at the Padang Kawad, off the Sabah Police Headquarters, in Kepayan here.

Counsel PJ Pereira represented the accused, while Inspector Albert Basiri conducted the prosecution.
