Jobless uncle pleads not guilty to committing sexual offences

KOTA KINABALU: A jobless man claimed trial at the Sessions Court here, today, to committing sexual offences against his 10-year-old niece.

The 53-year-old uncle appeared calm and nodded in understanding when the charge was read to him before Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence framed under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

The accused, who had to use a walking stick to help him move around, had allegedly committed sexual offences by touching the breast and private part of his 10-year-old niece on January 14 this year.

He was accused of committing the offence at about 12pm in an unnumbered house at a village in Manggatal.

Noor Hafizah maintained August 6 to 8 for trial against the accused, who was accompanied by his relatives.

Counsel Goldam Hamid represented the accused while deputy public prosecutor Dinesh Rajah conducted the prosecution.
