Woman pleads not guilty to drunk driving, causing death of four men [NSTTV]

TAWAU: A woman claimed trial at the magistrate’s court here, today, to a charge of drunk driving and causing the death of four men at Jalan Chong Thien Vun last month.

Olivia Chong Oi Yun, 34, pleaded not guilty to the charge read before Magistrate Ferhanshah Farene.

The court fixed Aug 23 for re-mention and Sept 3 for case management.

The accused, a former candidate of a political party in the 13th General Election, was first brought to court on July 12. However, no plea was taken from her at that time.

She was charged under Section 44 (1) (b) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries maximum fine of RM20,000 and 10-year imprisonment.

According to the charge sheet, alcohol test against the accused who is a management executive of a private company, revealed the level of alcohol in her blood exceeded the permissible limit.

She was also accused of causing the death of four men.

Deputy public prosecutor Wan Muhammad Fitri Wan Azizan conducted the prosecution, while counsel Abdul Ghani Zelika represented the accused.

It was reported that four men were killed and another injured when a Toyota Vios crashed onto them at a parking lot of BDC commercial centre (1Arena) on July 8.

The Toyota Vios car driver also rammed into three other vehicles parked there.
