SEREMBAN: Two Traffic Enforcement Investigation Department officers from the Sepang district police headquarters were remanded for five days beginning today to assist in investigations into a corruption case.
The case involved letting a foreign worker who was detained with a vehicle owner to go free.
The remand order against the two; a 24-year-old corporal and a 35-year-old lance corporal, was issued by Special Remand Court assistant registrar Mas Azmimin Ahmad.
Application for the order was made by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) prosecuting officer Mohd Khairi Abdul Karim.
Both the suspects were represented by lawyer Fadhli Sutris.
A source from the MACC said the suspects were detained when they were at the Negri Sembilan MACC office to assist in the investigation yesterday.
"The suspects were said to have stopped a Honda City driven by the complainant who was accompanied at the time by a foreign worker from Bangladesh along the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE). The suspect then claimed that the foreign worker's e-card copy was invalid.
"The suspect asked for RM800 but the complainant did not have enough money and the suspect handed his account number to the complainant. The complainant then asked his wife to deposit the amount into the account and the two were then let off," the source said.
Following what happened, the source said the vehicle owner lodged a report with the MACC.
The case was investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
