Shop assistant charged with using fake money to buy iPhone X

PETALING JAYA: A coffeeshop assistant pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of using counterfeit money totalling RM3,500 to make payment for the purchase of a iPhone X.

Choa Seng Leong, 30, made the plea before judge Norshila Kamaruddin.

He was charged with using 35 pieces of the RM100 counterfeit notes to pay for the handphone at the lobby of Summit Hotel, USJ here, at 11.30pm last July 23.

The charge, under Section 489(B) of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years, if found guilty.

Choa was allowed bail of RM7,000 in one surety and ordered to report himself to the nearest police station every month. The court also set Oct 11 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor V. V. Suloshani prosecuted, while Choa was represented by lawyer Datin Raj Preet Kaur.
