KOTA BARU: A woman was fined RM625 (5,000 Baht) by the Narathiwat Region Court last week for entering Thailand illegally.
Sungai Golok police chief, Pol Colonel Prayut Phongsanti said the 35-year-old woman from Kelantan was fined after she pleaded guilty to the offence on Sept 13.
“The woman was arrested by Thai authorities after crossing over to Sungai Golok town illegally via the Golok river.
“However, she paid the fines,” he told NSTP when contacted today.
Prayut said the woman who is from Rantau Panjang, was re-arrested by Songkhla police after she paid the fine.
“The woman is now being held at Bang Klang police station in Songkhla for another offence in connection with a transborder human trafficking syndicate,” he said.
It was reported that the woman known as “Kakak” (sister) among residents in Rantau Panjang, was arrested by the Thai police a few days after she crossed over to Sungai Golok without any documents.
According to Ninth Division deputy police chief Major General Daoloi Muendech, the woman was believed to be the account holder of a cross-border human trafficking syndicate.
He said a court in Songkhla had issued a warrant of arrest against the woman last August, also for a human trafficking case, involving victims below the age of 18.
