Viral road rage video: Queensbay 'road bully' nabbed

BALIK PULAU: Police have arrested a man in connection with the road rage and assault incident near Queensbay area, a video of which has since gone viral.

Southwest district police chief Superintendent A.A. Anbalagan said the 30-year-old factory operator was picked up in Teluk Kumbar at 12.15am today to assist with investigations into the incident.

In the 50-second clip, the man was seen alighting from his white Proton Saga and walked towards a Toyota Camry before kicking the side mirror.

He then grabbed the female passenger’s handphone that was used to record the act.

He was also heard screaming that he had an emergency, and that his wife had been admitted to the hospital.

Following some verbal exchanges, the man was spotted hitting the woman’s head and demanded that she erased all the recordings.

She then told her husband, who was driving, to call the police.

Elaborating, Anbalagan said in the 6.50pm incident yesterday, a man, his wife and their two children were approaching the Bayan Indah roundabout near Queensbay Mall when a car from behind honked at them.

“The driver of the Saga suddenly stopped in front of the Camry. The suspect got down from his car and started scolding the couple. He then kicked the Camry’s side mirror and grabbed two handphones from the woman.

“When she demanded for them to be returned, he pulled her hair,” he said today.

He added that the woman also had swelling on her left fingers.

Anbalagan said passers-by tried to calm the situation and the man returned the phones to the woman.

He said, following interrogation, the man admitted to kicking the Camry’s side mirror and taking away the handphones.

“We conducted a test on his urine and it came back negative.

“He will be remanded tomorrow,” he added.

Meanwhile, the woman, identified as Nana Tan, took to her Facebook account to relate the harrowing experience.

Tan said the incident happened when her family of four were heading towards Queensbay Mall.

She said her husband was driving slowly as their two children were inside the car.
