Police looking for 'Ibu Bonda' in Sultan Melaka probe

MELAKA: The police are now tracking down a number of individuals including a woman identified as ‘Ibu Bonda’ in the investigation into the case of a man claiming to be Sultan of Melaka.

State Police Chief Datuk Raja Shahrom Raja Abdullah said the police had taken statements by the man who went by the name Sultan Mansor Shah III, as well as other individuals involved in his “ascension” to the throne.

"The 63-year-old had also lodged a police report in Alor Gajah to deny that he made the posting on the social media, claiming that it was done by a woman identified as Ibu Bonda.

“The person (Ibu Bonda) is said to have done it following a dream that the man was heir to the sultan. The man believed that he was being manipulated by a certain individual," said Raja Shahrom.

He said this after attending a ceremony to mark the handing over duties for the new Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department chief state assistant commissioner Beh Eng Lai, who replaced senior assistant commissioner Zulkifli Che Wail, at the state police contingent headquarters in Bukit Beruang here today.

NSTP previously reported that the individual who went by the name of Sultan Mansor Shah III on Facebook had allegedly made a posting on Oct 23 that "Tengku Muhamad Jalil Md Nor, 63, used the Sultan Mansor Shah III title as Sultan of Malacca”.

The status mentioned that the “proclamation” was held on Oct 21 in Kuala Linggi, Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Raja Shahrom said traffic offenders were given 50 per cent discount for payment of summons from today to Friday.
