Cops find RM243,500 worth of syabu in package at KLIA Kargo, detain Nigerian

SHAH ALAM: Police on Monday detained a Nigerian man a day after one of five packages of grain was found to contain 4.8kg of syabu worth an estimated RM243,500 at the KLIA Kargo store in Sepang.

The packages were mailed to the 26-year-old foreigner via a courier company, using a non-existent address.

Selangor Narcotics Department deputy chief Superintendent R. Sundralingam said his men inspected the packages about 8.30pm on Sunday.

“One of the packages contained 4.8kg of syabu, which we seized. Further investigation, with the aid of an agent of the courier company, we identified the suspect who was to receive the packages from Nigeria and detained him,” he told reporters at his office.

The foreigner was detained at a shopping centre in Cheras at 9.40pm on Monday.

Sundralingam said initial investigations revealed the Nigerian to be jobless, adding that the drugs were meant for local distribution.

“We have obtained a seven-day remand order against the suspect to facilitate investigations for drug trafficking under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act,” he said.

In a separate case, two Malaysian teens were detained at an apartment in Petaling Jaya after 545g of cannabis worth RM1,360.

“On the same day, we also seized three cannabis plants were between 60 and 90cm tall at grounds belonging to an institution of higher learning in Serdang. However, no arrests were made in relation to this case,” said Sundralingam.
