Seafield temple riot: 10 remanded

PETALING JAYA: Two individuals arrested for their alleged involvement in the ruckus at the One City Mall early Tuesday morning have been remanded for three days beginning today.

Magistrate Nor Ariffin Hisham issued the remand order against the two suspects in their 30s until Saturday to assist in investigations under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.

The section provides for a maximum jail term of five years or fine, or both, upon conviction.

Meanwhile, eight others were remanded for four days for suspected involvement in the riots at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya.

The magistrate allowed for the remand application until Sunday.

All of them were arrested to assist in investigations under Sections 435 (arson), 138 (rioting) and 447 (criminal trespassing) of the Penal Code.

As of now, 30 individuals have been remanded with regard to the violent episodes that broke out at the temple and One City Mall which took place on Monday and Tuesday.

Among those remanded include One City Development Sdn Bhd's legal adviser.

All 10 suspects remanded today were nabbed in the police's third round of arrests since the incident first took place early Monday morning.
