Four men arrested for stealing motorbike belonged to cop

KULIM: Four men who were allegedly involved in the theft of a motorcycle belonged by a policeman in Taman Kemuning here on Wednesday, were arrested in two operations in Kulim and Pulau Pinang last night.

Kulim district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Nasir Jaafar said the first arrest was made at 8.30pm at Kampung Baru police station’s compound in Pulau Pinang after one of them, a 26-year-old man, was located.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the man, who is from Merbau Pulas, here, has criminal record including three drug offences and admitted to stealing the Yamaha RXZ belonged to the policeman.

“(Following this), a raid was conducted on a house in Merbau Pulas, where the three other suspects, aged between 18 and 26, were arrested. The trio was believed to have earlier involved in an accident after escaping with the motorcycle,” he said when contacted on Friday.

Ahmad Nasir said investigation revealed that a friends ofthe suspects, identified as Apit Harun, was still in coma at the Kulim Hospital, after being involved in an accident while riding the victim’s motorcycle.

“The victim had earlier found that the motorcycle, which he had parked at home in Taman Kemuning, went missing and lodged a police report.

“A manhunt was launched and the four men were arrested under Section 379A of the Penal Code,” he said.
