Perak NCID seizes over RM8.8mil of drugs so far

TAIPING: The state Narcotics Crime Investigations Department (NCID) has managed to seize several types of drugs worth over RM8.8 million and confiscate drug traffickers’ assets worth RM3.1 million in the first 11 months this year.

State NCID chief Assistant Commissioner VR Ravi Chandran said a total of 10,526 drug offenders had been detained with syabu and heroin recorded as the highest seized items during that period.

“A total of 2,295 people have been arrested for drug trafficking, which shows an increase of four cases compared to the same period last year.

“For drug possession, a total of 5,363 people have been arrested and the number also shows an increase of 2.8 per cent compared to 5,216 people arrested between January and November last year.

“From the total of drug traffickers arrested, 587 were arrested under Section 39B of Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 while 127 others were arrested under Special Preventive Measures 2018,” he said in a press conference after a Drugs (Evidence Exhibits) Disposal Programme held at the Edgenta Mediserve Sdn Bhd in Kamunting near here today.

Ravi Chandran said throughout this year, the state NCID also managed to cripple two illegal drug processing labs in Kampar and Gopeng.

In the drugs disposal programme, RM1.3 million worth of drugs were destroyed which involved 3,913 investigation papers since 2004.

Among the drugs that were disposed of include heroin (9kg), marijuana (4.5kg), syabu (3.2kg), ketamine (1.1kg), Ecstasy or Yaba (215 pills), cough syrup (2.3 litre), Eramin 5 (248g), ketum leaves (155kg) and ketum liquid (4 litre).

“Police will continue to conduct operations and observations, as well as to focus more on teenagers and students as some of them might be involved in drug abuse activities,” he said.
