Man jailed 15 years for raping teens

KOTA BARU: An unemployed man was sentenced to 15 years' jail and eight strokes of the rotan for raping two teenage girls in Bachok, Kelantan.

Judge Ahmad Bazli Bahruddin meted out the sentence after the accused, Amirudin Mohamad Rosli, 26, pleaded guilty to four charges of rape.

The accused was charged with raping the two girls, aged 13 and 12, at a house in Kampung Nipah, Bachok at 1.30pm on May 24.

He was also charged with raping the two victims at another house in Kampung Chong, Perupok, Bachok at 1.30am on May 25.

According to the facts of the case, the accused befriended the victims via social messaging service WeChat.

In the first incident, the accused brought the girls sightseeing before raping them at the house in Kampung Nipah.

In the second incident, the accused brought the victims to his friend's house, where they took turns raping the girls.

The accused was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which provides a maximum 20 years' imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.

The accused, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a light sentence as he needed to support his family.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Hajar Alias, however, called for a stiff sentence as the crime involved two young victims.
