Student threatens RTD officer with knife after fourth driving test failure

NILAI: Having failed his driving test three times, an 18-year-old college student here perhaps did not expect to make it four.

However, when his fourth test also ended in a failing grade, the student suddenly took out a knife and pointed it at the Road Transport Department (RTD) officer handling his test.

The incident happened at 10.23am yesterday at a junction in Batang Benar, Mantin, here.

Nilai district police chief Supt Mohd Nor Marzukee Besar said at the time, the suspect had just completed his driving test with the 34-year-old officer.

Mohd Nor Marzukee said the suspect who was retaking his driving test for a fourth time had committed various mistakes including failure to stop at a red light.

"Following that, the officer told the suspect he had failed and asked him to stop the car 50 metres from a traffic light.

"When they were about to change seats, the suspect took out a vegetable knife measuring 30cm from his bag," he told NSTP today, adding that the suspect then pointed the knife at the officer's right rib and stressed that he wanted to pass the driving test.

"The officer managed to open the car door and exited the vehicle before calling a candidate coordinator and the police for help," he said.

A team of police officers rushed to the scene and took the suspect to the Mantin police station.

"Urine test conducted on the suspect who is from Kuala Lumpur came back negative for drugs. Investigation is ongoing under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation."
