Police bust Geng Laptop Yas following arrest of trio

KOTA TINGGI: A gang of slick thieves who drove a stolen mini cooper to steal laptops from schools here has been busted.

The gang started their crime spree in 2017, escaping with almost RM200,000 loot.

They were busted after police raided a house at Felda Sungai Mas, Bandar Penawar, here on Friday.

Kota Tinggi police chief Superintendent Ahsmon Bajah said three suspects, aged between 20 and 32, were arrested along with housebreaking tools and stolen items.

He said the suspects were part of the Geng Laptop Yas and had been active over the past two years.

“They used to target schools in remote areas here...they would break into selected schools and steal laptops and other valuable items .

“We formed a special team to track the gang after receiving three break-in and one stolen car report,” he said, adding police managed to zoom in on the gang after three months.

Ahsmon said the trio were all unemployed and one had a criminal record.

Following interrogation of the suspects, police are now looking for three more of their accomplices.

He said police were also trying to trace those who had bought the stolen laptops as these were provided to the schools under the 1Malaysia aid scheme by the government.
