15-year-old student detained for attacking schoolmate with table, chair

GEORGE TOWN: Police have detained a 15-year-old secondary school student for allegedly attacking his schoolmate using steel tables and chairs inside the school premises today.

Northeast District Police chief Assistant Commissioner Che Zaimani Che Awang said the victim sustained injury on his back from the attack and alerted the teacher later after the daily assembly at the school located in Jalan Masjid Negeri.

The victim, also 15, claimed the boy cursed his mother which prompted him to confront him and advise him against repeating it.

The boy claimed he was ridiculed by his schoolmate and bullied since 2017, the police said. However, the boy claimed that no action was ever taken against his schoolmate.

During the incident, the victim’s advice was ignored and the other boy began throwing tables and chairs at the victim.

The victim is being treated at Penang Hospital.

“We are tracing three more students as witnesses to assist in investigations.

“We will also gather the suspect’s disciplinary report and the victim’s medical report,” Che Zaimani said in a statement today.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.

A video allegedly showing the father of the victim expressing anger towards the attacker’s parents, has gone viral.

It was believed that the father was enraged because the other boy’s parents have yet to go to the school to meet with him.

“Do you know, this boy cannot even talk properly (since the incident). As a father, how would I feel?

“It was not a slap, not even a punch but he was hit using a table.

“The father of the victim is here but where is his (attacker’s) father,” said the man in the video.
