Ex-lawyer charged with CBT, another with cheating

KOTA KINABALU: A former lawyer claimed trial at the Sessions Court today to criminal breach of trust (CBT) of RM330,000.

Azman Karim, 49, was alleged to have used the money entrusted to him by Syarikat Stanzjaya Sdn Bhd.

He allegedly committed the offence on July 22, 2013, at Tetuan Hamzah, Karim & Co, Advocates, Solicitor & Syarie Counsel, Blok 1, Lot 1, 88 Market Place, Lorong Pusat Komersil 88/1, Jalan Pintas, here.

Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim set bail at RM10,000 with two local sureties and fixed Feb 22 for case management and May 13 to 15 for trial.

Deputy public prosecutor Umar Faiz prosecuted, while accused was unrepresented.

Meanwhile, at the magistrate’s court, ex-lawyer Angela Buntong Ubu, 53, pleaded not guilty to cheating involving RM44,629 by misappropriating money belonging to a complainant meant to be for the purchase of a home.

She allegedly committed the offence on Sept 3, 2009, at Ambank in Kota Marudu district.

Magistrate Afiq Agoes allowed RM2,000 bail with two sureties and fixed Feb 26 for case management.

Inspector Albert Basiri prosecuted while Angela was represented by counsel Mohd Al Hafidz Mohd Lokman.
