Contraband cigarettes, tobacco worth RM1.9m seized, 3 nabbed

KUALA LUMPUR: Police seized nearly RM1.9 million worth of cigarettes and tobacco, and arrested three men on Thursday.

Bukit Aman internal security and public order department director Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said today that a team from his department had conducted raids in Seri Kembangan on Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off, he said police arrested three men, aged between 38 and 50.

He said the syndicate was believed to have been active for about four years.

“The contraband was smuggled into Malaysia from a neighbouring country by land for the Klang Valley and southern peninsular market.”

He said 190 boxes of cigarettes, 40 boxes of tobacco, two lorries and a pick-up truck were seized.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 135(1)(D) of the Customs Act 1967.
