KAJANG: Umno Youth exco Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, better known as Papagomo, has been charged at the Kajang Court today over an alleged assault involving Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

He was charged with two counts of insulting the modesty of and voluntarily causing hurt to Syed Saddiq.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Syed Saddiq, who is also Muar member of parliament, claimed that he was assaulted by a group of opposition supporters as soon as he was leaving the nomination centre for the Semenyih state by-election at the Seri Cempaka Hall of the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKJ) on Feb 16.

A video clip of the incident went viral on social media.

The 22-second video clip showed Syed Saddiq, accompanied by policemen and members of the Pas Amal Unit, being chased by a group of men.

The accused was arrested by police at his house in Setapak on Feb 17 to facilitate police investigations after Syed Saddiq’s claim that he was choked.

Papagomo, 36, was remanded for three days from Monday.

Investigations were carried out under Section 353, Section 147 and Section 323 of the Penal Code for using criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duties, rioting and voluntarily causing hurt.
