Missing Irishman found safe: Police

PETALING JAYA: An Irish man, Stephen Warde who was reported missing on January 1 has been found.

Dang Wangi police chief, ACP Shaharuddin Abdullah confirmed the matter which was reported via “Help Find Stephen Warde in Malaysia ” Facebook site yesterday.

The message which read “Stephen Warde has been found safe and well in Malaysia’ was uploaded yesterday evening.

“Yes...its up to the embassy, wait for the report tomorrow (today),” he said when contacted via WhatApps.

Meanwhile, Warde’s mother, Mary Morrissey in a statement posted on the Facebook page said her son had been found safe and well and had been reunited with his family members in Kuala Lumpur.

“I would like to personally thank everyone involved in so many ways in the search for Stephen, including the staff of the Irish Embassy in Malaysia, and the local police. Huge thanks to all in Kinrara and the surrounding areas, for their incredible support and generosity in the recent weeks,” she wrote.

Morrisey also noted that any balance in the fundraising activities would be donated to other worthy causes.

“At this time we will not be giving any further statements or media interviews and we ask for privacy so that we can deal emotionally with this wonderful development and enjoy the reunion with our son and brother Stephen,” she added.

Warde, 32, entered Malaysia as a tourist on Nov 15, last year and was last seen at the Mercu Summer Suite in Jalan Sultan Ismail on Dec 28 before being reported missing.--Bernama
