April 8 hearing of Kimanis election petition

KOTA KINABALU: The Election Court today set April 8 to hear the petition filed by Datuk Karim Bujang of Parti Warisan Sabah challenging the victory of Datuk Seri Anifah Aman of Barisan Nasional in the Kimanis parliamentary constituency,

Judge Datuk Lee Heng Cheong also set March 8 for the hearing of Karim’s application to obtain the relevant documents from the Election Commission (EC).

The judge set the dates in chambers after case management today.

Karim filed the petition on June 18 last year and named Anifah as the first respondent and election officer for Kimanis and the EC as the second and third respondents, respectively.

At the case management today, Karim was represented by counsel Frederick Chang Tyn Chi and Syaiful Sufeyyan Sidin while Anifah was represented by counsel Ansari Abdullah and Rizwandean Bukhori M Borhan, and EC by counsel Faizal Sarbi and Abdul Fikri Jaafar.

On Feb 18, the Federal Court remitted the petition filed by Karim to the Election Court for trial after allowing an appeal by Karim against the striking out of his petition by the Election Court on Nov 19, 2018, on an application by Anifah. -- BERNAMA
