SEREMBAN: A police sergeant was remanded for three days starting today for allegedly soliciting for and receiving bribes totaling RM1,500 from a man.

The remand order was issued by magistrate V. Vanita following an application by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecution officer Mohd Khairi Abdul Karim.

The arrest of the 30-year-old policewoman who is attached to the Gombak district police headquarters was conducted under Section 17 (a) of the MACC 2009 Act.

On March 13, the policewoman had allegedly asked for RM3,000 from the 39-year-old complainant to change the results of urine tests conducted on the latter from positive to negative.

Five days later, the woman once again contacted the complainant and agreed to reduce the amount to RM1,500 payable on March 19, and return the identity card of the complainant.

The policewoman was arrested at the MACC office at 9.45am yesterday, after receiving RM1,500 from the complainant.

She was represented by lawyer Mohd Redzuan Mohamed Yusof.
