Kelantan drug pushers get creative - 'buy 200 pills, get 1gm of syabu free'

KOTA BARU: Kelantan police have detected a new modus operandi among drug pushers to attract more buyers with a new promotional approach - buy 200 pills, get free 1gm of syabu.

State Narcotic Criminal Investigation Department chief Superintendent Roslan Yusof said the new tactic was discovered in a recent operation at Taman Manan Jaya in Tanah Merah.

He said a police team from Nibong station spotted a Proton Saga parked at the area around 10.30pm on Monday and decided to have a closer look.

“The officers saw two men acting suspiciously and approached them. They were later detained and upon checking, the officers seized 12,000 pills and 60gm syabu worth about RM189,000 from them,” he told a press conference here today.

Roslan said initial investigation showed that the two - a security guard and a trader, both aged 34 - have been selling the pills and drugs to local addicts.

“Their modus operandi is to offer customers the new deal.

“The duo, both locals, have introduced the new tactic since six months ago. This is the first time we came about such method to attract buyers,” he said.

The duo, he said have been remanded for six days until March 24.

In another case, Roslan said police seized more than RM34,000 worth of heroin from a motorcyclist during `Ops Lejang’ in Perupok, Bachok yesterday.

He said the suspect, a 34-year-old jobless man, however, was in critical condition after he fell off his machine while trying to escape the police roadblock.

“The suspect, who has several crime records, is now in a coma at Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM) in Kubang Kerian following the 6.30pm incident.” said Roslan.
