Doan Thi Huong to board flight to Vietnam at 7.20pm today

PUTRAJAYA: Doan Thi Huong, the Vietnamese woman who was released from Kajang Prison early this morning, will return to her homeland via Vietnam Airlines flight VN 680, which is scheduled to depart at 7.20pm today.

This was confirmed by her lawyer, Salim Bashir, via a phone call this morning.

The 30-year-old, who was accused of assassinating North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s half-brother, Kim Jong Nam, is currently under the custody of the Immigration Department at its headquarters here.

Salim said the department will escort her to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and assist her in terms of immigration clearance.

"She is now with the department and will be brought to KLIA by them.

"She should be at the airport at 4pm and officials from the Vietnam Embassy will be present to send her off at the airport," he added.

Doan had spent more than two years at the Kajang Prison.

She was charged along with Indonesian Siti Aisyah with poisoning Jong Nam by smearing his face with VX nerve agent, a banned chemical weapon, at klia2 in Feb 2017.

Last month, Doan pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of “causing injury” to Jong Nam.

Prior to that, Siti Aisyah was released and immediately flew home after her murder charge was withdrawn.

The duo denied having committed murder, arguing that they were pawns in a plan hatched by North Korean agents who fled Malaysia immediately after the killing.

Almost two dozen members of the media are gathered at the Immigration Department here for a glimpse of newly-released Doan.
