Ex-Army man charged in sexual assault of stepdaughter

SEREMBAN: An army retiree was charged at the Sessions Court here today with committing physical sexual assault against his 17-year-old adopted daughter, last week.

The 64-year-old man, however, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before Judge Junaidah Mohd Isa.

According to the charge, the accused was charged with committing the act against the victim in a house in Bandar Springhill, Rantau, Port Dickson, about 9pm on July 6.

For the offence, the accused was charged under Section 14 (a) of the Sex Offenses Act Against Children 2017, which provides a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

Earlier, deputy public prosecutor, Norsyazwani Ishak, offered no bail for the accused.

However, the accused who was represented by Joseph Mathews appealed for a lower bail on grounds that the accused had heart disease and diabetes.

Junaidah later granted bail of RM8,000 with one surety and ordered the accused and his family members not to approach and communicate with the victim.

The accused was also ordered to report to Lukut Police Station on the 15th day of each month.

Junaidah then set Aug 19 for re-mention of the case.
