KUALA LUMPUR: A man was beaten up by the members of the public before he was arrested for outraging the modesty of a woman inside a lift at a residential flat in Loke Yew.
Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department head Senior Assistant Commissioner Rusdi Mohd said in the 10.15pm incident on Sunday, the victim, aged 20, was using the lift at the flat to go down.
“When the lift stopped at Level 1, the 36-year-old suspect barged in and he tried to hug the victim. The woman then informed the matter to another man in the area,” he said in a statement today.
Rusdi said some members of the public in the area managed to apprehend the suspect.
“They also beat him up before he was handed over to the police for further action. The suspect has been remanded for three days until tomorrow to facilitate investigation under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or criminal force to a person with intent to outrage modesty,” added Rusdi.
