SIBU: Police have arrested a man on Tuesday for allegedly raping his girlfriend's 12-year-old daughter in Teku near here.
Sibu police chief Assistant Commissioner Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the 31-year-old suspect, a mechanic, was believed to have raped the victim five times at his home between May and July this year.
The matter came to light a few days ago when the victim complaint to her aunt that she had missed her period for at least two months and was feeling weak.
Suspecting something amiss, he said the aunt took the victim to Sibu Hospital for check-up.
“The hospital confirmed that the victim is pregnant,” Stanley said.
Following that, the victim’s aunt lodged a police report at the Sungai Merah police station leading to the suspect's arrest.
He said the victim, the youngest of three siblings, used to stay with her mother and boyfriend but recently decided to move to her aunt's place.
Stanley said the case is investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for statutory rape.
