Labourer told to enter defence for raping teenage daughter

IPOH: A labourer, who was charged with raping his 13-year-old daughter, has been told to enter defence by the Sessions Court here after the prosecution managed to establish a prima facie case.

The 39-year-old accused was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 which carries a maximum of 20 years in jail and caning, if convicted.

The charge was made on Jan 11 and the trial took place on June 24 and 25.

The decision was made by judge Datuk Julie Lack Abdullah, who found that the prosecution managed to establish a prima facie case against the accused.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Farhana Hashim prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyers Keshvinder Singh, Sukhdave Singh and S Teeban.

The accused chose to defend himself with a sworn confession in the witness stand and the defence is expected to summon four witnesses, including the accused for trial.

Julie Lack then set Jan 20 and 21 next year to hear the defence.

In Jan 7, it was reported that a 13-year-old had been raped by her own father and grandfather at two different locations in Malim Nawar area near Kampar since five years ago.
