Zahid took four insurance policies for vehicles [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court today heard that former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi took four types of insurance policies totalling RM44,611 for 12 of his private owned vehicles.

This was revealed by Allianz General Insurance branch manager Fang Suat Lim during Zahid’s trial involving 47 criminal breach of trust (CBT), corruption and money laundering charges involving millions of ringgit belonging to charity foundation Yayasan Akalbudi.

She said the four policies - private car policy, motorcycle policy, enhanced road warrior policy and bike warrior policy - were for seven luxury brand cars, five high-powered motorcycles and a classic motorcycle.

Fang, 49, testified that the policies were registered under Zahid’s name, that of his wife Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis and their children Nurulizwani, Nurulhidayah and Ahmad Shafiq Hazieq.

The 13th prosecution witness said the policies for the vehicles were valued between RM151.75 and RM8,110.75.

“The private car policy is a common insurance service for private car owners, while the motorcycle policy is a standard one for private motorcycle owners.

“The enhanced road warrior policy provides customers with towing services for their cars in the event the car is damaged. It is also to provide protection if an accident occurs and the driver or passengers sustain injuries.

“Meanwhile, the bike warrior policy provides similar services for motorcycle owners,” she said.

Trial continues before judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah tomorrow.

On Oct 19 and Dec 14, 2018, as well as Feb 20 this year, Zahid pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court to a total of 47 charges, 12 of which are for CBT, eight for bribery and 27 for money laundering involving tens of millions of ringgit belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi.
