Kelantan GOF seizes about RM7 million worth of syabu

PASIR MAS: The General Operations Force (GOF) 7th Battalion scored one of its biggest drug busts in Kelantan for this year when it seized 100kg of syabu worth about RM7 million.

The drugs were unearthed from a four-wheel-drive vehicle near Kampung Tasek Permai in Rantau Panjang.

GOF South Brigade commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Kamarulzaman Maarof, however, said no one was arrested in the 8.30pm operation

"A GOF team was on their patrol in the area when they spotted two men in a car acting suspiciously. When the GOF members approached the 4WD vehicle, the vehicle with the two men sped-off.

"They then chased the car but during the chase, the car driver had lost control of the vehicle causing it to skid at the roadside. The two men fled on foot," he said in a conference here today.

Also present were deputy state police chief Senior Assistant Abdullah Mohamad Piah and GOF 7th battalion commanding officer Superintendent Azhari Nusi.

Kamarulzaman said upon checking the vehicle, the GOF members found 100 packages containing syabu.

He said initial investigation showed that the drugs were smuggled in via an illegal jetty along the Kelantan/Thai border.

"The syabu, which is believed to have been brought in from a neighbouring country, is meant for distribution in the state and outside Kelantan.

"The drugs would have supplied for the consumption of nearly four million drug addicts," he said, adding that the seizure was the biggest made in Kelantan by the battalion this year.
