Serdang infant allegedly beaten to death by Thai babysitter

KUALA LUMPUR: A 10-month-old boy died from suspected abuse at the hands of his babysitter at Taman Sri Indah, Serdang, near here, on Thursday.

The babysitter – a Thai woman in her late 30s – was arrested at her house and will be produced in court in Petaling Jaya today for a remand order, Bernama reported.

It is learnt that the infant’s father received a call from the babysitter that his son had been injured at about 4.30pm yesterday. After rushing to the babysitter’s house and finding his son unconscious, the father conveyed the baby to the Serdang Hospital at 5.17pm.

All efforts to revive the infant failed, and he was pronounced dead shortly after.

A post-mortem conducted on the baby revealed that he had died from a severe abdominal injury due to blunt force trauma. It is believed that the infant had been struck with a hard object.

According to the father, the son had been healthy when he dropped him off at the babysitter’s house at 8am.

According to Serdang police chief Assistant Commissioner Ismadi Borhan, the case will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
