Police open 217 investigation papers on Covid-19-related fake news

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened a total of 217 investigation papers on Covid-19-related fake news, with 162 of them still under investigation.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 23 people had been charged in court for publishing fake news so far.

“Four of them had pleaded guilty. I would like to remind all that the police can still proceed with investigation and take legal action against those who post fake news, even after it is deleted.

“One incident involved a person who had published fake news, subsequently deletedit and apologised. Action can still be taken against offenders,” he said at a press conference which was carried live by local television stations.
