Appeals Court to live-stream several proceedings tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: For the first time in Malaysian history, several court proceedings at the Court of Appeal will be live-streamed tomorrow.

The Chief Registrar Department in a statement today said the move was in line with the on-going Movement Control Order (MCO) to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“We have conducted several cases via online and now we are taking one step further by introducing live streaming to allow the public to view the proceedings.

“We also want to ensure the continued access to justice during this period,” the statement said.

The online hearings will be conducted at 10am on April 23 via the Judiciary Department website www.kehakiman.gov.my.

Three civil proceedings that will be broadcast online are cases involving Syarikat Pengangkutan Satu Hati Sdn Bhd versus three individuals; Zhao Fongliang, Jin Halfang and Zhu Cunhua.

However, the statement did not mentioned the list of judges expected to hear the cases.

It was reported majority of court proceedings including several criminal hearings against senior politicians were halted or has been rescheduled since March due to MCO.

The MCO came into force on March 18 and has been extended until April 28.

Among others, it covers the general prohibition of mass movements and gatherings nationwide, travel bans on Malaysians, as well as restrictions on tourists entering the country.

During the period, all government and private premises (except for essential services), as well as kindergartens, schools and universities are shut.
