Cops nab biker nurse who crossed Penang Bridge in 2 minutes [NSTTV]

GEORGE TOWN: A male nurse was detained after a video footage of him riding his high-powered motorcycle recklessly and dangerously on the Penang Bridge went viral.

The 28-year-old took a mere two minutes and 10 seconds to cross the entire 13.5km stretch of the bridge.

Usually, it takes one about 11 minutes to cross the bridge without any traffic.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong said a member of the public had e-mailed police information about the Kawasaki Ninja 636cc rider after the video went viral on Facebook.

The video clip showed the rider on his machine going at high-speed in a reckless and dangerous manner, at about 1.27pm on April 17.

“It only took him two minutes and 10 seconds to cross the bridge.

“We also received a dash cam video recording of the rider’s action, which clearly showed that he was riding his machine at a speed of 300km/h.

"It further showed he was riding recklessly and dangerously by overtaking vehicles on the left and right,” he said.

Soffian said the arrest was made yesterday at the rider’s house at the Padang Tembak flat.

He said the rider and his machine had been brought to the traffic police station in the northeast district for further investigation.

A urine test conducted on the rider came back negative.

Soffian said the rider has since been released on police bail and expected to be charged in court on May 7.

The case has been classified under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
