KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah High Court will hear a case concerning the controversial Nature Conservation Agreement (NCA) tomorrow.
The case was filed by former senator Adrian Lasimbang who sought the discovery of key documents of the carbon trade deal.
The agreement, signed in October 2021, is said to grant monopoly rights irrevocably to a Singapore company Hoch Standard Pte Ltd for the monetisation of natural capital in up to 2 million hectares of Sabah lands.
Adrian, who is also an Orang Asal Rights activist, said he is representing the diverse Native Communities of Sabah who still hold Native Customary Rights.
He said that although the Sabah Government has stated that the Designated Area for the NCA is yet to be determined, it is understood the NCA is intended to target the state's Totally Protected Areas (TPA).
"I am asking for the documents that show what rights over what precise areas have been given to Hoch Standard and on what terms.
"Only then can it become clear if and how the NCA has impacted Native Customary Rights.
"I am taking legal action because it has become the only way for Sabahans to get clarity about what this deal commits our people to for the next one hundred years."
