Falsifying documents: Two including a contractor in Sabah released on bail

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has released two people on bail after recording their statements following a probe into a case of falsified documents.

The man, 41 and woman, 37, were kept in custody at about 10am at the MACC office here and were later released at 3pm.

It is learned the duo had submitted a company account statement containing false details to procure a two-year tender, worth about RM1.2 million, for a food supply and delivery contract with a district hospital in 2017.

Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy said the case was being investigated under Section 471 of the Penal Code.

In another case, Karunanithy also confirmed the arrest of a former government-linked company senior manager at the MACC office 9.30am.

The 51-year-old man was asked to assist an investigation into an RM170,000-bribery case involving a contractor.

The suspect is believed to have accepted the bribe in cash as well as in house renovation services, in exchange for facilitating claims made by the contractor.

The case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) MACC Act 2009 and the suspect will be charged at the Special Corruption Court soon.
