Pasir Mas police seizes fireworks worth RM25,000

PASIR MAS: Police seized 380 boxes of various types of fireworks worth about RM25,000 in an operation here today.

However, no one was arrested in the operation at Kampung Tasek Berangan, said district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasaruddin Md Nasir.

He said a police party was on routine surveillance at the area when they spotted a car with the driver acting suspiciously about 7.55am.

"After a short chase, the driver decided to abandon the vehicle. Upon checking the car, police found 380 boxes containing the fireworks," he said in a statement.

Nasaruddin said initial investigations revealed that the fireworks were smuggled in from Thailand.

"We suspect the banned items were brought into Kelantan via the many illegal jetties along the border. The fireworks are believed to be for local distribution," he said, adding that the car was also seized in the operation.

On another matter, Nasaruddin said police seized 822kg of smuggled rice worth about RM3,500.

He said no arrest was made in the 6.55am operation in Lemal.

"The rice which also smuggled in from Thailand, was found inside a car abandoned in the area," he added.
