MPV road bully remanded for three days

KUALA LUMPUR: The driver of a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) who allegedly bullied other motorists on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway has been remanded to assist investigations into the case.

Selangor Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Superintendent Azman Shari'at said the man was taken to the Shah Alam magistrate's court at 10am this morning for a remand order application.

"The magistrate accepted the application for a remand order and allowed the suspect to be remanded for three days until May 4 to help in the investigation.

"The suspect will be investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.

The man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of driving a MPV recklessly between Km25.1 and Km27.5 of the highway heading to Genting Sempah, Pahang.

Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Zainal Mohamed Mohamed said the man, 43, was arrested in the grounds of the district police headquarters at 2pm.

"The driver took a urine test at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, which turned out to be negative. He was also taken to the Selayang Hospital for a blood sample for an alcohol test," he said in a statement last night.

A video depicting an MPV weaving in and out of traffic dangerously in an attempt to get ahead of traffic went viral on social media.
