Restaurant helper fined for discarding statue in garbage bin

KULAI: A restaurant helper was fined RM2,500 by the Magistrate's Court, here, after he pleaded guilty to mischief by throwing away a statue at a house in Taman Scientex 13, Senai on May 15 at 9am.

Gabriele Jungkak anak Steward, 23, pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him by a court interpreter in front of Magistrate Sharifah Maleeha Syed Hussin.

The accused could face a three-month jail term if he failed to settle the fine.

Gabriele admitted to dislodging the fountain statue attached to a small hose, causing damages, and discarding the statue in a garbage bin belonging to one TS Dineshwaran, resulting in losses of RM25.

Gabriele was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum five years' imprisonment or fine or both, upon conviction.

Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Edelynn Wong asked for a deterrent sentence to serve as a lesson to the community.

The unrepresented accused did not appeal his sentence.
