Labuan MP fails in bid to transfer his case from Sessions Court to High Court

KUALA LUMPUR: Labuan member of parliament Datuk Rozman Isli's application to transfer his case from the Sessions Court to the High Court has been dismissed.

High Court judge Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin said Rozman - who is also Parti Warisan Sabah whip, had failed to fulfil the requirements to transfer the case.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Feisal Mohd Azmi said Rozman's application to strike out his charges would be heard before another High Court on Thursday.

Rozman was represented by counsel Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali.

Rozman was accused of using his position as Labuan Port Authority deputy chairman to secure the Dermaga Merdeka Pelabuhan Labuan employment contract operator for Liberty Port Management Sdn Bhd, a company in which his father and brother have an interest.

The offence was allegedly committed at the Transport Ministry headquarters, Jalan Tun Hussein, Precinct 4, Putrajaya, between 2.30pm and 5.30pm on March 23, 2018.

He was charged under Section 23(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 which carries a maximum 20-year jail term and fine not less than five times the amount or value of the gratification, whichever is higher.

The Sessions Court previously fixed Aug 5, 11 and 12 for the hearing.
