Muay Thai fighter dies after taking part in tournament

KOTA BARU: A Muay Thai fighter from Thailand, who fell into a coma after taking part in the combat sports tournament at Kampung Che Deris here yesterday, has died.

Kelantan acting police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said the 28-year-old died while receiving treatment at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZ ll) here.

He said the victim was earlier sent to the Badang health clinic before being transferred to HRPZll when his condition worsened.

"The victim was involved in a match with another fighter when the incident occurred about 8pm on Friday night.

"He lost to the fighter during the fifth round of the match and fell unconscious shortly after."

"He died at 10.50am yesterday while receiving treatment at the hospital."

Zaki said the results of a post-mortem showed that the victim died because of severe intracranial bleeding.

He said the victim, who was from Chumpon, southern Thailand, was married with one child.

"His remains were sent to his family in Thailand yesterday evening."
