Najib arrives at KL High Court from Kajang prison for 1MDB trial [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: After spending three days behind bars, Datuk Seri Najib Razak is back at the Court Complex here for his other corruption trial over the misappropriation of RM2.3 billion of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds.

Najib, clad in a dark suit, arrived at about 8.35am in a heavily tinted government vehicle.

Several people believed to be his loyal supporters had been gathering outside the compound as early as 7am.

However, the group was left disappointed as they were unable to get a glimpse of Najib. This was because the former prime minister's entourage did not stop at the complex's lobby, going straight to the lockup room instead.

Najib's daughter Nooryana Najwa is also present but his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has yet to be spotted at the moment.

Two officers from the Prisons Department, clad in a dark uniform and red beret, were seen inside the courtroom.

On Tuesday, the Pekan member of parliament was sent to the Kajang prison after the Apex Court upheld his 12 years' jail sentence and RM210 million fine for misappropriating RM42 million of SRC International funds.

A five-member bench led by Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat dismissed Najib's appeal to set aside the conviction and sentence imposed by the High Court here on July 28, 2020.

As for today's hearing, Najib is facing four charges of using his position to obtain bribes totalling RM2.3 billion from 1MDB funds and 21 charges of money laundering involving the same amount.

Former Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah is expected to continue giving his testimony before High Court judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah.
