Celebrity preacher accused of outraging modesty of woman to stand trial tomorrow

TENOM: The magistrate's court here is scheduled tomorrow to begin hearing cases involving a celebrity preacher who has been slapped with 11 charges of intending to insult the modesty of a woman.

Ebit Irawan Ibrahim Lew was accused of committing the offence against a 41-year-old victim by sending obscene words to the victim's phone number via WhatsApp between March and June 2021.

The offences under Section 509 of the Penal Code provide imprisonment for a term that may extend to five years or with a fine or with both, upon conviction.

Ebit had, on Feb 18, claimed trial to all 11 charges against him.

Magistrate Nur Asyraf Zolhani has fixed four days from tomorrow to Sept 30 to hear the case.

Ebit is currently released on RM11,000 bail pending the disposal of the case.

Counsels Ram Singh, Kamaruddin Mohmad Chinki, Timothy Daut, Kimberly Ye Wanchuin and Chen Wen Jye represented Ebit.

It was learnt that the trial will be conducted by the prosecution's team from Putrajaya.
