Jamaluddin Jarjis' widow agrees to settle legal dispute out of court

KUALA LUMPUR: The widow of late minister Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis has agreed to settle her legal dispute with her four children and mother-in-law over matrimonial property worth RM1 billion out of court.

Puan Sri Dr Kalsom Ismail, 66, filed the claim for the matrimonial property, which included 20 properties in Malaysia, Makkah, and several companies in October 2018 against Ikwan Hafiz, Nur Anis, Nur Alyaa, Noor Adilla and Aminah Abdullah.

Syarie Judge Abdul Shukor Abd Hamid said the court was in view that it was better for all parties to settle the case through a discussion.

"We encourage both parties to solve this case amicably as we do not want to break the family relationships.

"All parties involved must take each other's opinion as the court does not need to interfere in family matters," he said today.

Also present were Syarie lawyer Nor Husniah Husin and Datuk Sulaiman Abdullah appearing for Kalsom while Syarie lawyer Nur Hidayah A Bakar represented Aminah.

Earlier, Nor Husniah told the court that both parties agreed to have a family discussion to settle the claims as suggested by the court earlier.

Nur Hidayah confirmed the matter.

However, she asked for the additional statement of evidence to be submitted to them 14 days before the next court's hearing.

"The discussion has not reached any decision yet, so we request that a statement of evidence be filed by the parties involved," she said.

Sulaiman said the family discussion must be done comprehensively as they do not want to complicate matters any longer.

"Praise to God, this case is to be settled amicably.

"We will waste our time if we prolong this case further.

"We want the discussions to go smoothly and this case not to be made public, and not to go to court.

"However, we will do so (file the statement) if a solution is not reached," he said.

Jamaludin, who was also the former Malaysian Ambassador to the United States, was killed on April 4, 2015, after the helicopter he was travelling in from Pekan, Pahang, enroute to Kuala Lumpur, crashed at Kampung Sungai Pening, Semenyih, Selangor, at 4.55 pm.

Also killed were the pilot, Captain Clifford William Fournier, former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's private secretary Datuk Seri Azlin Alias, businessman Datuk Tan Huat Seang, Jamaludin's personal aide Razakan Seran and a woman known as Aidana Baizieva.
