Eye witness says bomb blast victim was drenched in blood, crying for help

AMPANG: The bomb blast victim at Pandan Indah immediately sought help from people nearby after the blast, said an eyewitness.

The victim, a 28-year-old man who had picked up a parcel left on top of his car just before the 8.45pm blast, was said to be drenched in blood, crying for help after the incident last night.

An eyewitness, who only wanted to be known as Ahmad, 41, said he was on his way back home when he heard the explosion from a nearby petrol station.

Ahmad was among those who helped lift the injured into a car to be taken to Ampang Hospital.

"I was going to pick up my child from my in-laws' house when the blast occurred. The sound of the explosion was so loud that my ears were ringing.

"I rushed to where the sound came from and saw the victim who was asking for help covered in blood.

"A few passerbys and I immediately rushed forward to help lift the victim and put him in a car," he said when contacted today.

Ahmad then called the police to notify them about the incident.

He said while he was lingering around waiting for the cops to arrive, he saw some bomb blast pieces made of batteries, sulphur, knives and 'power banks' (portable chargers).

"The workers at the restaurant told me that the victim who was a cook there had received a phone call asking him to pick up an item left outside (the restaurant) a few minutes before the incident," he said.

The victim who suffered serious injuries was later pronounced dead at the Ampang Hospital emergency department at about 9.45pm.

Another resident living near the scene in Pandan Indah described the explosion as unbelievably loud.

Recalling the incident, Nur Fatihaa Yusof, 34, said she was watching the news at home when she heard a loud 'boom'.

"The explosion was very loud and it sounded as if some huge metal pieces were being thrown from the top floor to the ground. I immediately peered out the window and saw a man growling on the ground next to a car emitting smoke," she said when met near the scene today.

The mother of two said the sound was so loud that her newborn was awakened from sleep and started to cry.

"I wanted to go down but I didn't because I had children at home. The situation seemed a bit chaotic at first and several minutes later I saw a few police cars arrive.

"I didn't realise what had happened until much later when my husband returned home," she said.

Meanwhile checks at the crime scene this morning showed that the area had been cordoned off and several neighbouring shops were also not open due to the blast.

The forensic team has been combing the area for evidence since this morning.

At the mortuary, efforts to speak with the deceased's family members were futile as they did not want to be interviewed.

Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Farouk Eshak when contacted said the case was under investigation for murder.

"We are still trying to piece together the information we have gathered so far and establish what could be the motive. It's too early (to say anything now)," he said.
