Terengganu Socso charges 30 employers for various offences

JERTIH: The Social Security Organisation (Socso) charged 30 employers in Terengganu for various offences throughout last year.

Terengganu Perkeso director Farihah Che Husin said all the employers were charged under the Employees' Social Security Act of 1969.

"Among the offences against the employers were failure to register workers, failure to report accidents and failure to make contributions for workers. These cases were filed in court and most of the employers have been fined up to RM3,000 for each offence," said Farihah.

She was speaking to reporters after handing out assistance to the family of a victim, Abdul Wahab Mat Sulaiman, who had drowned while on duty.

The financial aid was handed to the victim's family residing at Kampung Durian Telor, Hulu Besut, near here today.

Farihah added that Socso would take stern action against employers who fail to follow the guidelines and ensure the welfare of employees.

Socso handed RM2,000 as funeral expenses while the parents of Abdul Wahab will receive a pension and his siblings will receive financial aid until they reach the age of 21.

The body of Abdul Wahab, 27, who fell while repairing a water pipe at Lata Tembakah was found on Dec 25.

"The family was able to receive the benefits because the employers where Abdul Wahab had worked, contributed to Socso," said Farihah.

Terengganu Socso had paid out RM21.6 million involving 14,117 cases last year. – Bernama
