Boy, suspected abuse victim, found wandering in Cheras

KUALA LUMPUR: A young boy, aged between three and four years old, was found wandering by members of the public near the Cheras Utama apartment in Batu 9, Cheras yesterday.

Police said a man had alerted the police about the boy through the MERS999 line at 11.30pm.

Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan said the caller said the boy was found sitting alone near a junction.

The boy also appeared to have bruises on his body, hands and forehead, indicating possible abuse.

"Following the call, we took him to the Batu 9 police station for checks. There was no identification document on him.

"Based on initial checks, we suspect he may be a foreigner," he added.

Mohd Zaid said the boy was later taken to the Kajang Hospital's pediatric ward for treatment.

"He is currently in stable condition and will be referred to the Hulu Langat Welfare Department soon." he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for ill-treatment, neglect, abandonment or exposure to physical or emotional injury.

Mohd Zaid urged those with information on the boy to contact investigating officer, Inspector Mohd Zaiyaudi Mohd Yaakub at 019-5355395 or the nearest police station.
