Company director claims trial to false claims submission

SHAH ALAM: A company director claimed trial at Sessions Court here today to submitting an invoice with false details to the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) bursary five years ago.

Kamal Karim, 49, a director of Finetop Performance, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him before Sessions Court judge Rozilah Salleh this morning.

He was accused of having the intention to deceive UPM's financial officer Azizul Syahril Mohd Salleh by submitting an invoice with false details to claim RM4,150 for air conditioning repair works at Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Cultural and Arts Centre (PKKSSAAS).

He was alleged to have claimed the amount for the supply and installation of a 10-inch fan exhaust, complete with installation and wiring work for the woman's surau at PKKSSAAS, where the actual total amount for the work was only RM550.

He was accused of giving Azizul Syahril the invoice with false details on Oct 21, 2018, at the UPM's bursar office.

The charge was framed under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act 2009, which is punishable under Section 24(2) of the Same Act, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and a fine five times the value of the offence committed, or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

Judge Rozilah granted RM5,000 bail to the accused and fixed March 14 for re-mention.

Deputy public prosecuted Irna Julieza Maaras prosecuted while the accused was represented by Shalehhuddin Salam.
