Muhyiddin expected to face 6 charges - Sources

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to be hit with at least six charges when he is produced at the Sessions Court here tomorrow.

The Pagoh member of parliament, who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president, is expected to face four charges of abuse of power under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

Sources when contacted by the New Straits Times Press said Muhyiddin is also expected to face two charges under Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

Earlier today, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that Muhyiddin would be charged in court tomorrow.

Azam said Muhyiddin was now having his statement recorded by the commission at its headquarters here.

Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, however, believed Muhyiddin would not be arrested today.

Muhyiddin was accompanied by his lawyer Datuk K. Kumaraendran when he arrived at the MACC headquarters at 11.15am today.

The former prime minister confirmed in a Facebook post yesterday that he had been summoned to the MACC headquarters at 11am today.

Although he did not specify why he was called, it is learnt that it was related to the Jana Wibawa scandal.

The Jana Wibawa scheme was introduced by the government under Muhyiddin's administration to speed up project implementation and boost the country's economy during and after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The scheme was also intended to increase the capacity of Bumiputera/Malay contractors in the construction industry to be more competitive and resilient.
