KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will again be charged in court, next week, in accordance with Section 4(1)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
The charge against the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman follows an investigation related to Jana Wibawa by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
This was confirmed by MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki here today.
"Yes, that's right," he said when asked about the matter.
Under Section 4(1)(b) of the Act, any person who commits a money laundering offence shall on conviction, be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 15 years and a fine of not less than five times the sum or value of the proceeds or RM5 million, whichever is the higher.
Muhyiddin, upon being released on conditional bail last night, said he is expected to be charged with seven offences which will be made separately in Kuala Lumpur on March 10; and on Monday in Shah Alam.
Earlier today, Muhyiddin was charged with six counts of corruption and power abuse involving RM427.5 million.
He pleaded not guilty and claimed trial to all six counts after the charges were read to him before Sessions Court judge Azura Alwi.
The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president, whose actual registered name is Mahiaddin Md Yasin, 76, has become the second former prime minister to be charged in court for corruption in the country's history.
